    Description

Offered for sale is a rare Coleman 501 Sportster single burner stove with a manufacturer date stamp of 6/62 for June, 1962.  This design replaced the larger 500A single burner stove and was only made for a few months in 1962 until Coleman discovered a design flaw that could potentially be dangerous.  There is no shut off valve to stop the fuel flow leaving the fount.  The only shut-off is after the generator and if there were a potential generator leak or failure, there was no way to shutoff a running stove.  Coleman recalled this stove and replaced it with the 502 model.  Recalled stoves were destroyed at the Service Centers which makes this model hard to find.
This stove is in good condition with some paint loss on the fount.  The tank is clean inside and the stove has been disassembled and the parts were cleaned.  The check valve was removed and cleaned, pump leather was oiled and the cap gasket replaced.  It is fully functional, but has not been tested and it is not recommended for use, only for display.  Please read the information online about the hazards of this stove before bidding.  You buy this stove with no warranty for its use. Please view all the photos to confirm the condition.
Also included is the original 501 heat drum. Note that this original design has no notch in the bottom rim. When the stove design changed to the 502, the heat drum needed a notch to fit over the Bunsen. Later heat drums have a notch. Only the first few months of production are like this to fit the 501 model. The heat drum box show wear, tearing, and staining. The original warning tag from the stove is included as well, but is stained.
This stove is a great piece for display to fill that void in your collection!
