Straits' Chinese Furniture. A Collector's Guide.

    DISCUSSION:
    By Ho Wing Meng.
Published in Singapore by Times Books International in 2003.
"Straits Chinese furniture is a fusion of Chinese Qing dynasty ornateness and early 19th-century English dignity and decorum. It developed its own style and uses in the Straits Settlements of Singapore, Malacca, and Penang, and unlike other artifacts of the period, is still in active use today, carefully restored by craftsmen and taking pride of place in many modern homes. Settling along the major trade route that opened up between China and the Indian Ocean along the Malacca Strait, the so-called Straits Chinese or Peranakan brought much of their Chinese culture with them, yet also took on much of the local culture from Malaysia, Indonesia, and other peoples of Southeast Asia. This series of books looks at their unique blend of cultures through captioned color photographs, archival images, and a detailed text."
Hardcover. 8.5"x11", 188 pages, color and black & white illustrations, dust jacket. Minor wear.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OVERSEAS BUYERS, PLEASE NOTE:
SHIPPING: To comply with Ebay’s policies, all packages are shipped using recorded/trackable methods and you should check the postage quotes before completing a purchase. Our International shipping charges are based on the weight, when packed, of each package -we offer “combined shipping charges” for orders for more than one item –this often means the shipping cost for the items is less than it would have been if they had been purchased and shipped one at a time, so please ask us for a shipping quote if you are thinking about buying more than one item. Thanks!
CUSTOMS CHARGES: Your post office may impose a customs charge on your incoming package, we have no control over this and no information about it, please check with your post office for more information. It is against U.S. law and Ebay rules for us to lie on the customs form about the value of packages, please do not ask us to do this.
